Fibre Optic Cable Lay
Completed July, 2008
Location Hakataramea Valley & Mackenzie Basin
Client Meridian Energy
Size 1.15 Million
Overview
Installation of fibre optic cable between Waitaki Power House and Tekapo A, over the rocky Hakataramea Pass.
Methodology
Rooney Earthmoving has recently completed this 120km fibre optic lay through the physically challenging environment, with the addition of an extremely tight programme. The route covered rugged terrain and at the top of the pass reached heights of up to 845m above sea level. The projects timeline was severly shortened by the the consent process and Meridians wishes to have it “cut over” by the end of the financial year. Meridian and REL worked out a strategy, which meet all consent and programming requirements, while staying significantly under the contracted value.
