Waste Water Treatment Upgrade

Completed February, 2008

Location Ashburton, South Canterbury

Client Ashburton District Council

Size $6.3 Million

Overview

Construction of oxidation ponds, wetlands and the installation of 70km of pipelines to dispose of treated effluent.

Methodology

Our work package included the construction of a10ha impervious wetlands located on top of a gravel island. Due to the difficulty with lining this material we carted a clay lining material from an offsite source and mixed it with our stabilizer to ensure an impervious, compliant membrane. This REL initiative saved the client a significant amount of cost, as other options were to import more clay liner or use a manufactured geo-membrane.

Key Figures

  • 10.6 km of main trunk irrigation line.
  • 50 km of lateral irrigation line.
  • Extensive electronic automation.
  • 10ha of stabilized impervious wetland.
